My notes based on 2012 quarter 1 report (number in '000):-
- Lower revenue and pbt than FY11Q1 due to lower level of charter rates and lower TCE rates earned and the loss of 26 days’ revenue due to unemployment of vessels but contribution from our associate (POSH Group) increased partly due to foreign exchange gain, vessel disposal gain and improvement in utilisation and charter rates in the offshore services sector

- Current quarter’s investment holding income includes gain on disposal of investments (RM3.0 million) and write-back of mark-tomarket provisions (RM8.7 million)

- Higher revenue and pbt than FY11Q4 as a result of revenue days increased due to the delivery of a new long term chartered in vessel although charter rates earned declined

- Estimate next 4Q eps after 2012 Q1 result announced = 1795850*0.05/1000000 = 0.0898, estimate PE on current price 1.5 = 16.37(DPS 0.03)
- Estimate next 4Q eps after 2011 Q4 result announced = 1795850*0.04/1000000 = 0.0718, estimate highest/lowest PE = 25.21/20.89 (DPS 0.03)
- Estimate next 4Q eps after 2011 Q3 result announced = 0.0219*4 = 0.0876, estimate highest/lowest PE = 30.59/15.3 (DPS 0.05)
- Estimate next 4Q eps after 2011 Q2 result announced = (0.0219+0.0427)*2 = 0.1292, estimate highest/lowest PE = 14.71/12 (DPS 0.1)
- Estimate next 4Q eps after 2011 Q1 result announced = 0.0427(exclude RM10 million other income)*4 = 0.1708, estimate highest/lowest PE = 13.23/10.42 (DPS 0.1)

KLCI Stock - MAYBULK / 5077 - 2011 Quarter 4

MALAYSIAN BULK CARRIERS BHD

My notes based on 2011 quarter 4 report (number in '000):-
- Lower revenue and pbt than FY10Q4 as a result of the lower charter rates earned lower average charter rates earned by dry bulk carriers in line with the falling BDI due to overcapacity

- The tanker market remained stagnant, although tankers average charter rates improved but revenue declined due to lower revenue days. Factors contributing to the lower revenue days are the disposal of a tanker in February 2011, the scheduled docking for 3 tankers and downtime awaiting employment

- Higher revenue and pbt than FY11Q3 due to charter rates improved whilst revenue days increased

- Lower other operating loss mainly due to reduced losses on foreign exchange and lower mark-to-market losses on investment. The fourth quarter 2011 “other operating loss” figure also includes reversal of a provision for a UK lease and an accounting adjustment for foreign exchange to comply with MFRS 121

- Lower administrative costs than FY11Q3 as the current quarter’s figure includes an overprovision in the previous quarters

- Estimate next 4Q eps after 2011 Q4 result announced = 1795850*0.04/1000000 = 0.0718, estimate PE on current price 1.75 = 23.96(DPS 0.03)
- Estimate next 4Q eps after 2011 Q3 result announced = 0.0219*4 = 0.0876, estimate highest/lowest PE = 30.59/15.3 (DPS 0.05)
- Estimate next 4Q eps after 2011 Q2 result announced = (0.0219+0.0427)*2 = 0.1292, estimate highest/lowest PE = 14.71/12 (DPS 0.1)
- Estimate next 4Q eps after 2011 Q1 result announced = 0.0427(exclude RM10 million other income)*4 = 0.1708, estimate highest/lowest PE = 13.23/10.42 (DPS 0.1)

My notes based on 2011 quarter 3 report (number in '000):-
- Lower revenue and pbt is attributed to a 35% fall in the charter rates for the dry bulk segment and reduced revenue days from tanker segment

- The BDI’s 9 months average of 1,428 points for 2011 is a 51% decline against the comparative average of 2,885 in 2010. Against the backdrop of the weak dry bulk sector, the Group’s charter rates for our dry bulk carriers declined by 35% to USD17,491/day, compared to USD26,908/day for the same period last year

- The Baltic Clean Tanker Index (BCTI) remained flat from 2010 into the third quarter this year and this is reflected in our tanker revenue. Our tankers’ average TC rates for the 9 months of 2011 was USD12,257/day, compared to USD12,315/day for the same period last year. Revenue days from tanker segment were lower in this current 9 months due to the disposal of a tanker in February 2011, and the scheduled dockings of 3 tankers

- Gains on foreign exchange and disposal of vessel, offset by mark-to-market loss on investment, contributed a net “other operating income” of RM1.39 million for the 9 months of 2011. Finance cost decreased by 78% (or RM4.96 million) y-o-y as last year’s comparative includes provisions for early termination of a structured lease

- Compared to FY10Q3, is lower profit share from the Group’s jointly controlled entities in the dry bulk sector due to the falling dry bulk market

- But compared to FY11Q2, associate company POSH Group reported an increase as the employment rates for their vessels improved. Jointly controlled entity Progress Shipping Pte Ltd Group, took delivery of a new handysize at end June 2011 and this vessel has contributed positively to their results

- Estimate next 4Q eps after 2011 Q3 result announced = 0.0219*4 = 0.0876, estimate PE on current price 1.79 = 19.86(DPS 0.05)
- Estimate next 4Q eps after 2011 Q2 result announced = (0.0219+0.0427)*2 = 0.1292, estimate highest/lowest PE = 14.71/12 (DPS 0.1)

The tanker market continued to remain weak with MBC’s tankers’ earning US$12,952/day in 1H2011, against last year’s comparative average of US$13,059/day

- Lower operating profit mainly due to the lower charter rates

My notes based on 2011 quarter 1 report (number in '000):-
- Lower revenue than FY10Q1 attributed to a 28% fall in the hire rates, the BDI averaged 1365 in the current quarter, a 54% decline from the 2984 average in the comparative quarter last year. The weaker market is reflected in the lower TCE/day achieved by dry bulk segment for Q1 2011 of US$21,398/day compared to Q1 last year’s US$30,260. The tanker market continued to remain weak and this has resulted in a 21% lower tanker TCE average of US$12,610/day against last year’s comparative average of US$15,938/day

- Higher other income than FY10Q1 primarily due to a RM8.4 million foreign exchange gain and RM4.6 million gain from the disposal of a tanker

- Lower profit from associate due to weak offshore services market

- Higher revenue than FY10Q4 attributed to the increased revenue days from ship-chartering segment

- The Group sold a tanker in February 2011 registering a gain of RM4.6 million, as compared to a gain of RM22.6 million posted in preceding quarter. This has resulted in a RM18.0 million q-o-q drop in the other operating income

- Estimate next 4Q eps after 2011 Q1 result announced = 0.0427(exclude RM10 million other income)*4 = 0.1708, estimate PE on current price 2.23 = 12.47(DPS 0.1)
